/Source:Cuban Ambassador at UNESCO Yahima Esquivel deposited her country’s instrument of ratification of the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education.
Esquivel submitted the document to the director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, at a brief ceremony after which she stressed that Cuba underlines through this decision its commitment to international cooperation and its willingness to work to strengthen it in the field of higher education.
In this regard, she insisted on the importance of improving the quality of higher education on a global scale, a key issue in the face of the great challenges of humanity.
According to the Cuban ambassador, the Convention contributes to academic mobility to strengthen access to education as a human right and a public asset, through the mutual recognition of qualifications among countries.
The new international mechanism establishes principles for equitable, transparent and non-discriminatory recognition of higher education qualifications, favoring inclusion and opportunities for study and employment.
In December 2021, Azoulay received the document, which will enter into force three months after the date of deposit of the twentieth instrument of ratification.
Cuba is one of the first states to ratify the World Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education.
