As India prepares to assume presidency for the G20 Summit, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting today, November 16, to prepare for the G20 2023 Summit. For G20 2023, education will be a priority area.
India will be hosting the G20 Summit in 2023. As India assumes presidency for the G20 Summit, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has conducted a preparation meeting ahead of the summit. For G20 2023, world leaders have stated that one of the main focus areas would be the field of Education.
During the meeting, The Indian Education Minister has stated that education would be one of the priority areas for G20 2023. Pradhan has called for preparations to be made well in advance of the G20 Meet in India.
For G20 2023 Summit, India has assumed presidency from Indonesia. As per Pradhan, the G20 summit with India’s presidency is an opportunity to share what the country has achieved in the education sector, especially after the launch of National Education Policy, NEP 2020.
As per the official press release issued by the Press Information Bureau of India, there will be four key areas in the field of education that will be given importance. These are –
Ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy in context of blended learning.
Building capacities and promoting lifelong learning
Making tech-enabled learning more inclusive, qualitative and collaborative at every level of education.
Strengthening research, promoting innovation through richer collaboration.
In the high-level meeting chaired by Pradhan, an education working group will also be formulated with experts from various institutions such as NCERT, IISC, NSDC, IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, UNESCO, UNICEF, OECD, etc. This Education working group would work towards creating a report called “G20 EdWG Report”.
Dharmendra Pradhan has also called for the involvement of students in preparing the reports as he hopes that India would present a template for global education in the coming future. India will assume presidency of the G20 meet from December 1, 2022 onwards.
