Aesthetic education is an integral element of the spiritual completion of the individual. The school should particularly focus on promoting it. Beyond its cognitive-centric nature, education is necessary to cultivate the individual in an aesthetic way as well.
By aesthetic education, we mean a multifaceted and multidimensional course. This course will cultivate students’ elegance, sensitivity, imagination, and creativity by bringing the student in contact with the art world. It can introduce students to the world of music, theater, painting, and other forms of art. Unfortunately, however, the average modern school is deficient in cultivating aesthetic education.
Aesthetic treatment: the shortcomings
Initially, in terms of promoting the value of the theatre, theatrical performances and student troupes, which should be a permanent concern of every school, only exist for a few exceptions. At the same time, aesthetic education is not understood since no notable student choirs and orchestras exist. So musical performances are only organized and staged in specialized music schools in some cases. As for the time dedicated to art lessons, it could be more.
There need to be more artistic workshops where the student will be able to unfold their talent. Schools have to organize frequent visits to museums or painting exhibitions. Children with special skills could be identified if that happened in every school. Poverty is thus observed in all forms of aesthetic education.
The value of aesthetic education
The value of aesthetic education to the individual is multiple, so it must be provided from the first years of education. Initially, the person’s sensitivity towards reality is enhanced, which they approach through music, painting, theater, dancing, sculpturing, etc. Their senses and perceptual abilities are cultivated, and skills are identified, which can play a decisive role in their future professional rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, with aesthetic education, individuals learn to enjoy beauty wherever they meet it, in nature or art, and become creative more often. And guess what? When people turn more to creation, they tend to forget destruction. Can you imagine what kind of mature and useful adults we could cultivate if we gave space to kids to express themselves through art? Contact with any form of art makes a person a connoisseur of their nation’s culture and other people. The strengthening of cultural consciousness, an essential parameter for the peaceful coexistence of people, is cultivated. After all, contact with art is a channel of communication between people.
Aesthetic education is particularly crucial for the formation of a complete personality. As the main educational institution, the school is obliged to take care of and integrate aesthetic education into its program. Future citizen does not just need to be specialized in their jobs. Together with knowledge and science, we can cultivate their feelings and soul, which classical antiquity taught in practice. Art can help people chart the path to their perfection. At the same time, they can create what their imagination tells them because the art space on which aesthetic education is based is unique and can help the individual unfold the aspects of their soul. And their love for this space prompted the great painter Vincent Van Gong to say characteristically, “I dream of my paintings, and I paint my dreams.”
